Ancient World History for Upper Elementary and Lower Middle School

Course Description:

Why is the world the way it is today? What causes great conflicts, wars, and alliances? In this course, students should expect to comprehend and analyze general knowledge from ancient empires (4000 b.c.) until the dark ages (1200 c.e.). Throughout the class, each session will focus on a specific empire or area of the world, putting each in context in the greater world and on a timeline. This class will prepare students for future classes in the middle ages, renaissance, age of colonization, imperialism, world conflicts, and modern world history overall. There will be eleven class units in total, assuming one lesson per week. Additionally, there will
be a quiz every two units and a test at the end of unit 5 and 10.

Zoom Procedure

Students should expect to have their cameras on at all times, with accommodations for
technological difficulties. Because we are learning on computers, it may be easy to switch to
other tabs, play games, or do something besides paying attention to the presentation. However, in order to maximize learning and the lesson, it is strongly encouraged that you only keep open the zoom tab we are learning on.
Furthermore, when participating in class, you should make use of the raise hand feature to raise
your hand, and stay muted at all times unless called on.

What Classes & Homework Will Look Like

Classes will include a mix of lectures, participation, discussions, classwork, and projects.
Assuming students are in similar spaces, working together on classwork will be a key part of the
class. Homework will vary from week to week, but will likely consist of readings and discussion
questions to bring back into class each day. Each class will begin with a review of homework and
then move to lectures. All presentations, homeworks, and readings will be available on Google
Classroom.
